A large number of people choose independent houses, chalets or penthouses, because they have more space and because the “noisy neighbors” factor is usually greatly reduced in this way. They also have more space and, perhaps, in the case of the loft, a large balcony. How to insulate the roof from the cold and heat from the outside

If we want to properly insulate the roof from the cold (or from the heat), we have to act in the right order. Therefore, we must begin to study and analyze whether cold and dampness can enter, because the roof’s external insulation is insufficient.

The sensation of high humidity, or even the dreaded leaks, increases the cold inside the house, so, first of all, we will have to  make sure that they are well waterproofed . We advise you to check all possible joints and gaps when laying the waterproofing layers so that not a single drop enters. Above all, be especially careful if your roof is tiled, because it’s easy for water to find any small space to enter your home.

We also recommend that if your roof is made of tiles, you get some  breathable membranes . They are thin layers that facilitate the regulation of the temperature inside your home and also reduce the risk of suffering from condensation problems due to the excessively high temperature inside as opposed to the humidity outside.

How to insulate the house from the inside

Although it is true that first of all you have to pay attention to the external insulation, the most important is the internal one, because it is the most effective in isolating the cold. Before choosing which way to proceed, two main aspects should be considered:

• The insulation will reduce the space : something you will notice especially in the case of the upper.
• How to insulate : This depends on the level of temperatures in the coldest months in your area.

In the event that it is not very cold where you live, then insulation will not require much space. We recommend that you choose, for example, rolls made of very thin layers of polyethylene and aluminum (in some places they are called reflective rolls) that are no more than fifteen millimeters thick. In addition, its placement is very simple, you just need to staple it to the wood and then cover it with plasterboard.

But if the winter temperatures are much colder, you will have to use stronger insulation. In this case, we advise you to resort to  layers of rock wool, glass wool or expanded polystyrene . And remember that the thickness should not be less than 90mm. Their situation is the same as explained above.

There are a large number of people who don’t want to install thermal films or panels and finally opt for another solution: paint. This alternative may not convince you at first, but it works.
