Step 1 – Determine the type of protection

Step 2 – Choose an installation location

When installing yourself, things are more complicated, because if you install the enclosure incorrectly at home, the protective device may fail at best, not to mention such consequences as a fire.

Therefore, in order to install a voltage stabilizer in the room yourself, consider the following recommendations:

• The room must be dry and well ventilated. One of the main reasons for failure of the device is the appearance of condensation inside the case;
• When installing the product in a designated place, make sure that the finishing materials are fireproof – brick, concrete, metal or fiberglass;
• Observing the air gap between the equipment body and the walls, the indentation on all sides should not be less than 10 cm;
• If you decide to install a voltage stabilizer on the wall with your own hands, make sure that the bracket (or anchor) can support the weight of the wall box.

Step 3 – Connect to the mains

In fact, it is very easy to connect a voltage regulator to the network at home yourself. On the back of the device there is a terminal block with 5 connectors. Usually, the order of connecting the wires is as follows (from left to right): input phase and zero, grounding, phase and zero, going to the load.In the photo below you can see the location of the connectors:

Requirements and recommendations for connecting a voltage stabilizer with your own hands:

1. Be sure to turn off the electrical power at the input shield before electrical work.
2. Protect the product more circuit breaker and RCD that will prolong its service life. It is recommended to install automation after the meter, but before overvoltage protection.
3. The home power must have a ground loop. It is prohibited to make a connection without grounding for electrical safety reasons.
4. It is forbidden to install a voltage stabilizer at home in front of the meter, and it is very difficult to achieve protection mode in front of the meter. It is best to install as shown in the diagram above.
5. You cannot plug in the device immediately after bringing it home from the cold. Let the electronics “move away” and all internal capacitors evaporate, otherwise, as we said above, the service life of the device will be significantly reduced. This also includes a ban on street delivery of the product.
6. Protection with a power of less than 5 kilowatts is connected directly to the outlet. This option is ideal for a garage, a country house and a summer house. Some install a portable voltage stabilizer separately on a computer, TV, boiler, air conditioner, generator or washing machine, which allows you to protect only a certain type of household appliance.
7. If you need to connect an overvoltage protective device in a three-phase network, it is better to purchase three single-phase devices with a voltage of 220 V and connect them in a star circuit from a device with a voltage of 380 V. So you will save money not only on purchasing the stabilizer, but also on its repair (repairing a single-phase device is much cheaper than a three-phase one).
8. After electrical work, check the correct connection and installation by turning on the input devices on the switchboard. If nothing pulsates, explodes or sparks, then you did everything right.
9. Do not connect the device to a higher power load. The margin of safety should be between 20 and 30%.
10. The correct installation diagram is usually indicated on the product container. First of all, focus on it, but if there is no prompt from the manufacturer, we recommend making the connection according to this instruction. All popular models (from Resanta, Leader) should be connected using this technology.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated, the main thing is to consider all the requirements and recommendations. In conclusion, I would like to note that every year you should check the reliability of the wire connection in the terminal block and, if necessary, tighten the bolts.
