• Passive sensors:  They act as variable impedance, so in order to give us an electric voltage (or current or charge) at the output, we must connect them to an external power source.
• Example:  We can use a potentiometer as a motion sensor.

There are many different types of sensors, each of which is used for a specific purpose or application and to measure a specific physical quantity, including but not limited to:

The sensor receives the invisible infrared radiation that comes from our bodies, and then converts it into an electrical signal.
