1- Direct grounding

• This type of earthing is where the connection between the tie point and the ground is made directly by a conductor without any resistances or obstructions
• It treats the defects of the indirect grounding system and is used in the LV system where the ground fault current is small, but it is sufficient to operate the protection relays when any ground fault occurs, as it is disconnected momentarily without any delay.
• This system of protection is not suitable for the main circuits in high voltages that require continuity of feeding. This type of grounding is called effective grounding, given that the voltage of the healthy faces remains the same, i.e. its value does not increase.

2- Grounding with resistance

• The connection between the break-even point and the earth is through resistance and is used in systems with medium and high voltages in order to limit the voltage rise in the covers of electrical equipment when the fault currents of the earth connection pass through it and its value can be controlled to adjust the maximum height of the voltages of this equipment during the fault and it is also used in grounding a point Tie for generators with voltages higher than 1000 volts.
• This system is used when there is an urgent need to reduce the earth fault current

Grounding advantages:

That is, it is about connecting the objects and metal casings of equipment and devices to the ground through an electrical conductor to avoid a rise in the body’s voltage when contact occurs between them and the current-carrying conductors

Which causes its voltage to rise to the voltage of the face, and thus causes anyone who approaches or touches it to be exposed to the risk of electric shock .

Grounding equipment means not only connecting the body of the equipment to the ground, but also connecting all metal parts, bases, and installations that do not carry current to the ground through grounding equipment and tools.
