What is overload

It is a protection device that disconnects the electric current from the load or the motor as soon as the current increases in the intensity of the permissible value, where it is possible to determine the value of the disconnection current on the same current of the electric motor by means of a scale indicator located in the front end of the overload.

The working mechanism of the overload device

The overload consists of three thermal coils that are connected in series with the terminals of the motor, and it has a graduation dedicated to adjusting the value of the overload current to the same value of the motor current, and when the motor is running, it will work normally, but when the current drawn by the motor is higher than the value set on the overload indicator, it expands Thermal coils and, as a result, switch or change the position of the auxiliary contacts as follows:

Types of overload

• A type that connects directly with the contactor, i.e. designed to connect directly with the output terminals of the contactor.
• Integrated type, that is, it connects its main terminals (input and output) via copper connecting wires.
• A special type of protection for large-capacity motors, which works to protect the motor with 5/100 current transformers.

Explanation of electronic overload

The overload is considered one of the most important components of the power boards because it protects the motor from combustion due to the high value of the current, which exceeds the value specified for the motor coils, for a specific reason such as a drop in voltage, the fall of one of the phases, a sudden load, mechanical failures, or an overload on the motor

Electronic overload, consists of feeding points called A1, A2, voltage 220 volts AC, and there is an indicator to determine the value of the motor current.

The overload is considered one of the most important components of the power boards because it protects the motor from combustion due to the high current value, which exceeds the value specified for the motor coils.

This is due to a specific reason, such as a decrease in voltage, the fall of a phase, a sudden load, mechanical failure, or an overload on the motor.

We should also know what a contactor is  and what it is used in general?

The contactor  mainly works on the magnetic effect of the electric current, so that it uses a coil through which an electric current passes, and it generates a magnetic field that works to attract an iron core, which is connected to the ends of the power circuit. Air conditioning, lighting and heating circuits, etc

The contactor  is one of the most important elements of automatic control, rather it is very important. It is a box containing contacts, i.e. switches. These contactors are used in the power circuit to connect a high current, and some are intended to connect to the control circuit through which a small current passes.

The contactor consists of two pieces of iron, one fixed and the other movable, and a coil is wound around the fixed piece, so if electricity is connected to this coil, it will turn the fixed piece of iron into a magnet that attracts the moving piece, so contact between the two pieces takes place, i.e. the contactor switches are closed, and when Separating the current from the coil, the contactor returns to its original position by means of a “spring” or what is known as a “spring” or a “bobbin” that pushes the moving piece up again.

Therefore, it is an automatic switch through which we control the separation and connection of voltage to the loads that operate at high voltages 3 PHASE, such as controlling the work of pumps, high-load machines, air conditioners, and motors.
