Electrical circuit: definition and components

An electrical circuit is a system of several components connected together to form a closed path that allows electrical current to flow. The operation of an electrical circuit depends on the movement of current from one point to another. This occurs when the circuit is closed, allowing electrical current to flow freely through the connected components.

Electrical circuit components:

  1. Power source (such as battery):
    • It provides the electrical current necessary to operate the circuit.
  2. Wires:
    • They provide a path for current to flow between circuit components.
  3. Load (eg lamp or resistance):
    • It consumes electrical energy and converts it into light, heat, or other performance. It is considered the end point of the circuit.
  4. Key (if present):
    • Allows the circuit to be opened and closed, enabling the flow of current to be controlled.

Types of electrical circuits:

  1. Series circuit:
    • The current passes through one component after another sequentially.
  2. Balanced circuit (parallel):
    • Current passes through multiple paths within the circuit.
  3. Mixed circuit:
    • Includes a mix of series and balanced circuits.

Electrical circuits are essential in many fields and are used in electrical appliances and modern technologies.
