Earth rods and accessories are used to provide interface to earth in all soil conditions in order to achieve satisfactory grounding systems in underground and underground electricity distribution and transmission networks – providing high fault current capacity on low, medium and high voltage substations, towers and power distribution applications.

Suitable for installations where the subsoil is free of rocks and boulders, the ground rod or copper rod assembly can be enclosed or backfilled with a low resistivity material such as bentonite.

Depending on the abrasion condition and electrical conductivity of the ground condition, the grounding rod can be selected to achieve safe, reliable and long-term grounding protection – the mechanical force of the rod must withstand the abrasion and stress that it bears during installation with an electric motor or pneumatic hammer rod the head of the ground rod must not spread when pushed.

Earth rods are extendable by design and are used with brass couplers to connect multiple rods to achieve desired drive depth – rod couplers provide permanent electrical conductivity and longer copper earth rods reach low resistivity soils at lower depths.

Vertical in shape and most effective for use in substations with typically a small footprint or where ground conditions with low soil resistivity, through which the rod can penetrate, lie beneath a layer of high resistivity soil.
